“How do I find out if I can help?”

I have had a few people respond to my facebook page. People are asking some very good questions. Some of the questions included:

How do I know if I can help?

The answer is, that, it is a process. The first hurtle is that you must be type O(negative or positive does not matter). After that they look at very complicated test results with the blood to determine if you are a match. You would undergo a very extensive physical, they want to make sure they are aware of any underlying issues you may have that could cause you problems in the future; if they find anything, you are ruled out.

How do I get started?

There is a link on my homepage.

http://www.umm.edu/campaigns/livingdonorkidney

It will take you to a form to fill out. You will then receive a pamphlet explaining things.

How long does this take?

My understanding is that it will take a few months to finish tests.

I will continue to look for a donor until I am transplanted. The process involves many steps and someone could make it through the whole process and then decide they can’t do it or the doctors decide that I would reject the kidney. So please keep sharing my facebook posts. Thank you for your time and interest.
